Macedon Ranges Shire's small businesses to see a boost in support

PR Newswire

Melbourne, Vic., Jul. 19, 2021 /Medianet/ --

Small businesses in the Macedon Ranges Shire will have more support to start, run and grow their businesses, with the local council having signed up to the Small Business Friendly Council initiative.

The initiative is being rolled out by the Victorian Small Business Commission (VSBC) in partnership with the 60 local councils that have now made the pledge.

Acting Commissioner Mark Schramm and Macedon Ranges Shire Council Director Planning and Environment Angela Hughes made it official by signing the initiative’s Charter.

By signing, the council is pledging to work with the VSBC on a range of measures, including:

  • helping small businesses to keep trading while council works are underway – including the annual street tree planting program where 240 new trees will be planted in nature strips across Romsey
  • paying small business suppliers within 14 days
  • helping new local business networks to get up and running and existing ones to grow
  • working to streamline approval processes for people who want to start a business locally
  • raising local small business issues with the VSBC and working together on solutions.

The council’s pledge adds to their business supports in response to the pandemic, including the Shire-wide Recovery Operations Centre – a centralised service for residents and business owners to ask for support and information, offer assistance and put forward recovery ideas.

The Macedon Ranges Shire is home to over 13,300 jobs across a range of industries that stand to benefit from this commitment – from healthcare and social assistance and construction to education and training and tourism.
